THUD! THUD! THUD!

Veda stopped walking.

A strange sound was coming from the dark storeroom in her house.

“Who is inside?” she whispered.

Nobody answered.

Veda felt scared. She quickly ran to her grandmother.

Veda and her grandmother smile with surprise as a little white-and-brown kitten comes out from behind a wooden box in the storeroom.

The Power of Maa Kalaratri

Grandmother smiled. “Today is the seventh day of Navratri. We worship Maa Kalaratri, a powerful form of Goddess Durga.”

“Is she brave?” Veda asked.

“Very brave! Maa Kalaratri has a dark appearance and a fierce form, but she protects good people and destroys evil. She teaches us to overcome darkness and fear.”

Veda happily holds a little kitten while her grandmother smiles beside her, with a framed picture of Maa Kalaratri on the wall.

Veda looked at her grey dress.

“Grandmother, what does grey mean?” she asked.

“Grey is the colour for Day 7 in our Navratri colour calendar,” Grandmother explained. “It represents balance, calmness, and strength. It reminds us to stay calm and think clearly, even when we feel scared.”

Veda looked towards the dark storeroom.

“I think I should find out what is making that noise,” she said.

The Mystery Behind the Door

“Grandmother, will you come with me?” Veda asked.

“Of course!” Grandmother replied.

Together, they walked towards the storeroom.

THUD! THUD!

Veda held Grandmother's hand tightly.

Grandmother switched on the light.

Suddenly, a little kitten jumped out from behind a wooden box!

“Meow!”

Grandmother explains the courage of Maa Kalaratri to Veda while pointing towards a framed picture of the Goddess in their living room.

Veda laughed. “So you were making that scary noise!”

She gently picked up the kitten.

Grandmother smiled. “See, Veda? Sometimes things seem scary because we do not understand them.”

Veda hugged the kitten.

She looked at her grey dress and smiled. She had stayed calm and faced her fear with Grandmother's help.

Now, she understood the lesson of Maa Kalaratri.

Moral of the Story: True courage means staying calm, thinking clearly, and facing our fears carefully.
