BOOM!

Thunder shook Gokul.

Dark clouds filled the sky. Heavy rain fell without stopping. Strong winds blew through the village.

The people were scared. Cows and other animals had nowhere safe to go.

The storm kept getting worse.

Why was this terrible storm happening? And who could save Gokul?

Krishna stands with frightened villagers and cows in Gokul as heavy rain, strong winds, and lightning fill the sky.

Why Was Indra Angry?

A few days earlier, the people of Gokul were getting ready for a big prayer to Indra, the god of rain and thunder.

Krishna asked why they were worshipping Indra.

The villagers said, “He gives us rain.”

Krishna told them to thank nature and Govardhan Hill instead. The hill gave grass to their cows and helped provide food, water, and shelter.

The villagers agreed and worshipped Govardhan Hill.

When Indra heard this, he became very angry.

He sent dark clouds, heavy rain, and strong winds over Gokul.

That was the reason for the terrible storm.

Krishna Saves Gokul

The villagers ran to Krishna for help.

“Please save us!”

Krishna stayed calm and walked toward Govardhan Hill.

Krishna stands with the villagers of Gokul as they offer food and prayers near Govardhan Hill, surrounded by cows and festive decorations.

Everyone wondered what he was going to do.

Then Krishna placed the pinky finger of his left hand under the huge hill and—

lifted it!

Everyone was amazed.

“Come under the hill!” Krishna called.

The people and animals quickly moved under Govardhan Hill and stayed safe.

For seven continuous days, seven-year-old Krishna held the huge hill on his pinky finger.

Krishna lifts Govardhan Hill with one hand, sheltering the villagers, cows, and animals of Gokul from heavy rain and lightning.

At last, Indra understood his mistake. He stopped the storm and asked Krishna for forgiveness.

The sun came out, and Krishna gently put Govardhan Hill back down.

Gokul was safe again.

Moral: Respect nature, stay humble, and always help others.
